BIOGRAPHY (contd)
This
album is often described as a melting pot of musical influences including
hip hop, bossa nova, urban, Portuguese 'fado' and pop amongst others.
Nelly herself particularly enjoys the way that bands like Cornershop mix
Indian music with pop, and particularly wanted to incorporate Portuguese
and Brazilian elements into her own songs. 'Whoa Nelly' has received worldwide
critical acclaim, reaching No. 2 in the UK album charts. Her singles 'I'm
Like A Bird' and 'Turn Off The Light' reached no. 5 and 4 respectively
in the UK charts and Nelly has received many awards for her work including
four Juno awards and the Top of the Pops award for best newcomer.

Nelly has achieved
so much since the release of 'Whoa Nelly', she has opened for U2 and David
Gray and was personally invited to sing at Elton John's post Oscar party,
she sang for the Portuguese president at his request, duetted on a remix
of 'Get Ur Freak On' with Missy Elliot and took part in Moby's Area One
tour. She extensively toured during the promotion of 'Whoa Nelly' with
her 'Burn In The Spotlight' tour and won several awards including a Grammy
for 'I'm Like a Bird', she loves collaborating with other artists and
has featured on songs with Paul Oakenfold, The Roots, Jurrasic 5, Timbaland/Ms
Jade and Juanes. In Late November 2003 Nelly's long anticipated second
album 'Folklore' was released and just prior to this a more precious production
of Nelly's was born .... her baby daughter Nevis. In 'Folklore' we hear
a different Nelly, more mature and with an even more astounding vocal
range
